"What is Biblical Femininity?"

“What is Biblical Femininity?”

Two sisters, Anna Sofia and Elizabeth Botkin gave this inspiring message at Vision Forum Ministries Father & Daughter Retreat. They are the only daughters in their family with five brothers. When they were little girls, they were taught to memorize Proverbs 31 and the verses were often applied to situations in their lives. This way, they learned the truth of Scripture and the blessing that comes from living life God’s way.

As the Botkin family lived in New Zealand a number of years, the family often had college women in their home. Anna Sofia and Elizabeth were younger than their guests, but were assumed by many to be older due to their Christian maturity. Their ministry to these older girls has set off a quiet reformation in New Zealand that continues today.

As Christians we all can see that our American culture is sliding toward destruction. Scripture relates the stories in biblical history that illustrate that destruction follows prolonged disobedience. As in the Garden of Eden, when people decide for themselves without grounding their decisions on God’s commands, then nothing good comes; and if repentance is not forthcoming, destruction is inevitable.

So what can we do? The answer is simple, but requires God’s work in our lives and in the lives of our children. We must repent and live our lives in obedience to God. Along with repentance we must learn to think biblically so that we can act in accordance with His will. So we ask, “What has God ordained for women and what will God bless in women? “

In their message, “What is Biblical Femininity?”, Anna Sofia and Elizabeth first address the wrong ideas concerning women. True femininity is not based on tradition, stereotypes, or romantic ideas from history. It is portrayed most thoroughly in Proverbs 31, but resonates throughout the Scriptures.

Their message stresses that biblical femininity fulfills the purpose of female creation- helping one’s father and, if married, one’s husband, fulfill his call. This truth, which is quite the opposite of modern feminism, is that all women have been created as helpers and completers. Their destiny will always be tied to the vision of a man because that is their created role.

They admit that we can easily be discouraged as we look around and see the great lack of biblical femininity and the resulting consequences. But God is sovereign and has all power to bring good if we are faithful to obey His word. God has placed us in this generation. It is at this time in history that we are called to be a light to the world.

So how should we teach our daughters? How can we prepare them to develop godly femininity? Elizabeth and Anna Sophia’s simple yet profound exhortation is to teach your daughters to love their Daddy and serve him.

Their message was, “Communicate with your father. Give him your imperfect heart. Making yourself vulnerable in this way requires that you trust God.”

This was the way Elizabeth and Anna Sofia Botkin were taught and the way they live, as they are not yet married. The fruit of selflessness and Christian maturity is apparent in their lives. The answer to “What is Biblical Femininity?” is demonstrated by these two young ladies.

In this message and in their book, So Much More, they give us practical examples for little girls, young ladies, and older women, married and unmarried. If this video gives you a desire to learn more from the Botkin sisters, the book, So Much More, is highly recommended.

Theirs is a powerful message that inspires women to fulfill their purpose. The truth is that when women (or men) glorify God by living their lives in obedience to Him, the dominion accomplished by God in their lives blesses their families and ultimately the world. Elizabeth and Anna Sofia’s passion is to encourage girls to embrace true femininity and to rebuild Christian culture one home at a time. Thanks to Elizabeth and Anna Sofia for showing us the way.
