Melissa comments:

“I am looking for a complete Abeka Kindergarten curriculum.  Any site I go to for used books shows me books that are separated. I don’t know what I need, as I am new to homeschooling. I would really like some help. Thank you!”

Hi Melissa,

Buying used curriculum sometimes means piecing together what you need.

At Best Homeschool Buys, I have set up an improved page for Abeka Kindergarten that includes any listed Abeka lots at the top of the page. I decided to add this search term because of your request for help in your comment. In today’s Abeka K listings, two auctions are coming up, one looks like a good bet for what you need. You can compare the list of books included in the auction with Abeka’s list of books in the Child Kit and Parent Kit to see if anything is missing. Then you can look for those items separately.

You can find out what you need for Abeka K by looking at Abeka.com.  Search by grade to look at the list of materials. For the early grades, Abeka provides a Child Kit and a Parent Kit. The Child Kit contains the books and materials that the student uses; the Parent Kit contains the curriculum instructions, teacher’s guide, etc.

=============================================

If you haven’t already done so, you will probably learn a lot by reading what other parents say about A beka’s Kindergarten program. Sometimes, you will discover, certain parts of a curriculum are used very little and possibly can be skipped or substituted with something else.

You can find A beka reviews by searching with Google. The best review sites that I know of are HomeschoolReviews.com and Cathy Duffy’s site.

*While reading about A beka  K5, I learned that A beka has a revised Kindergarten program that teaches cursive writing rather than manuscript, if you prefer.

There are many sites online that sell used homeschool materials. Two that I have used besides Best Homeschool Buys are:

Homeschool Classifieds

Homeschool Swap

Just do a Google search to find others.

Hope you’ll have success finding what you need,

Sincerely,

Julie Simmons

Just an added note, I really liked the set of Abeka books that are meant for Kindergarten students between kindergarten and grade one.

We used the Abeka Summer Reading Kindergarten Set with all five of our children when they were learning to read . This set contains 55  Abeka Kindergarten books which are little books that help a child progress in reading while he is learning phonics. Many children will not be ready for these books until first or second grade, depending on their reading readiness. Click on over to the post about these books if you would like to know more.
