Truthquest History!  What a wonderful resource for teaching multi-age history!  I have used this program in many different seasons of our homeschool journey.  This curriculum is absolutely perfect for those that are looking for complete flexibility in what books and materials you use.  It is also ideal for those that prefer to write out your own schedules.

Because it is completely customizable to ages and abilities, it suits a wide range of children.  I have used it with Elementary-High School and we are currently gearing up to do the same thing again.  I also like the fact I can choose resources that meet the learning challenges and needs of each of my kids.  I try to use what I have on had and what I can find free from the library or online before I spend money.

Another component I add to this is NOTEBOOKING.  I have combined lapbooks and notebook pages to help my kids make a History Notebook that spans from Creation to Modern.  A few of my kids have several notebooks.  We have found that they enjoy going back to their notebooks years later and remembering what we have learned.  It is a great way to save their work as well.

The examples in the picture are from A Journey Through Learning, who has partnered with Truthquest History to customize the pages for all of their offered history courses.  I have found them to be an excellent addition to the course and even include map work!

One note of caution when using Truthquest History – the Author herself cautions you on this – PLEASE do not try to do every book or resource listed.  The curriculum was never intended to be used that way.  It is meant for you to choose the BEST resource that you have access to from the list of choices.

A good rule of thumb is to pick a History Encyclopedia that has lots of pictures and is age-appropriate, a spine book if you need one, readers for your kids to read that are THEIR LEVEL of reading, one read-aloud a month, 1 activity a week in addition to the notebook pages, and a couple of supporting picture books (yes, even high school kids like picture books and they come in multiple age levels).  You can always add more and you can always do less.  I also suggest doing all the map work, starting in upper elementary.  The only other thing I would add to this is a visual timeline for them to “watch” history happen.  You can head on over to our Pinterest page to get some ideas on different types of timelines or go and check out the Timeline Resources on Notebooking Pages.  Stay tuned for more thougths and ideas on notebooking and timelines…

This program is definitely a Best Homeschool Buy and an Evergreen Homeschool Curriculum!  What are some ways you have used Truthquest History? Do you have questions on how to set up and use this program?

We would love to hear from you.  Let us encourage one another as we all walk together!

You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.
