Guest Hollow Awesome History Timeline Schedule

I want to take a few minutes and tell you about Guesthollow Awesome History Timeline Schedule. This is truly an AWESOME schedule!  I am currently on my second time around using this schedule with my multi-age crew.  If you like real books with map activities, video options, activities and other things thrown it then you want to go and look at this FREE program.

Here is an excerpt from the website’s description of the schedule:

What is the Awesome History Timeline Schedule?

It’s a history curriculum I created for my son that covers history in a very visual and easy to follow, tweakable, CHRONOLOGICAL format that goes from 0 A.D. to today. It covers both world andAmerican history (either of which can be used independently). It can be used with ANY age (even as an adult history reference) – although my choices on it “as is” reflect Otter’s age as he works his way through it. I LOVE it and we are currently working with it. It schedules in lots of various spines (pick and choose whichever you want), and all the other goodies my other schedules have (books, movies, and so on). It’s…well…awesome, lol.

You can use this schedule by itself or you can use it to supplement any other history curriculum that covers either or both world and United States history.

It is definitely more than can be covered in a year, but fits nicely into the 4 year history cycle that many of us use.  If you are looking from Ancient history, however, then check out her FREE Ancient History Curriculum here. Otherwise, this timeline starts at 0 AD and spans to 2018.

I found this program to be very easy to customize to my kids learning styles and needs, while being very thorough.  I prefer using real books, rather than textbooks, for my History studies.  I also like to include historical fiction as an aid for retention instead of a primary teaching tool.  This has been a fabulous fit for my eclectic learning styles in our home.  Another thing that really stands out to me are the choices in activities to reinforce the materials.  As they are all optional, what we do is up to me and the budget I have for that year.

Many of the books can be found at the local library, but there are several that you will want to purchase.  Most of those are Christian-content and are not available in the Public Libraries.

One thing I will note – If you don’t like working through something at your own pace and want a set, defined schedule then I suggest you spend some time realistically planning out your schedule.  There is more on this schedule than is meant to be done by one child, it is more for options and customization to what you need in your own family.  I tend to use a highlight for each child and highlight what I want to do for each grade level.  This helps with multi-age planning.  As far as scheduling, I plan 1-1.5 hours 4 days per week for History.  Incorporated into that time is Reading/Language Arts, so I don’t think that is too long.  We don’t always use the whole amount of time, but it gives us time for those days they want to do “one more video” or “one more activity”.

This is definitely a Best Homeschool Buy!  If you have used this program, I would love to hear how you structured your day and scheduled your lessons.  Drop a comment below.

Let us encourage one another as we walk together,
