MIDDLE SCHOOL LANGUAGE ARTS

If your Middle Schooler is struggling with a traditional writing program and prefers a more creative approach, then I encourage you to check out “Cover Story”.  We used this program for my creative, artistic daughter when she was in Middle School.  She LOVED it!

We found this program creative and fun, with a neat story line that enhanced the learning experience.  I would not recommend this for students that absolutely hate writing regardless of the topic.  I also would caution you on using this program for children who are more traditional in their learning style.  Having all of the learning styles in my home, I have found it very helpful with my creative, artistic, Charlotte-Mason style, eclectic style learners.

For the most part, it is student-led and you (the parent) will check their progress.  I also recommend following the suggested schedule if you want to get through it within 1 school year.  The Teachers Guide is easy to follow.  The Company also will respond to emails and calls, if you run into any concerns.  The online chat room for the kids is a GREAT addition and offers peer reviews and further instruction on their work.

Here is what the publisher has to say about this product:

Create Your Own Magazine in One Year!

Cover Story writing curriculum takes middle school students on a guided tour through the universe of Story as they create content for their own magazine in one school year.
In this exciting curriculum from Daniel Schwabauer, the creator of the popular One Year Adventure Novel, students are led, step by step, on a fun, thought-provoking journey of exploration and creation.

Your student will write poems, short stories, non-fiction articles, letters, and many other short pieces. They also learn to notice and record their thoughts and ideas by following the creative structure of The Remarkable Journal of Professor Gunther Von Steuben.

A 12-lesson optional grammar component is included with purchase.

Cover Story also allows students the freedom of choosing a theme for their magazine, and a subject for each assignment. This approach gives the structure and guidance they need to understand the principles in each lesson, but allows them to create from passion rather than pressure.

This one-year program is appropriate for grade levels 6–9.

After completing this program, you will want to go to the High School (8th – 12th) series – One Year Adventure Novel, where they will write their own Adventure Novel by the end of the year!

For the rest of August, you can save 20% on this program through Homeschool Buyers Co-op, a great online discount resource for all sorts of homeschooling needs and FREE to join.  Just go HERE to review the terms and start the order.

I think this is a great option for Middle School Language Arts and a Best Homeschool Buy!
