Charlotte Mason-styled Homeschool Math program

After trying several workbook-based math programs with my youngest son, I ran across this one at a convention a few years ago and decided to look at it.  As I was looking through the workbooks, I found that this was truly a unique and one-of-a-kind product!  The lessons are very easy to follow and include the “why’s” of mathematics.  There are even life lessons interwoven into each chapter!

I started using this with my son (then first grade) and watched as he went from hating Math to asking for more!  He liked the hands-on activities used to introduce and reinforce concepts, as well as the story that went along with it.  I found him quickly caught up in the lives of the two children that are in the main story-line of the book.  We both appreciated the daily lesson plan and the short lessons as well. An added benefit were all the life-lessons he was learning along the way.

Here is an excerpt from the MasterBooks website to give you more details on the program:

Learn Smarter

Students learn best and retain more when they are engaged within material and actively applying concepts to everyday life. Math Lessons for a Living Education engages your student through exciting stories and teaches them how to apply mathematical concepts to everyday life situations, allowing your student to learn smarter instead of harder!

Real Life, Real Math

Math Lessons for a Living Education puts math into context because math is so much more than a worksheet—it’s measuring ingredients to bake with grandma, plotting garden space, planning for family trips, and counting down the time until that trip!

A Unique, Engaging Approach

In Math Lessons for a Living Education, students are encouraged to explore the big picture and break it down into smaller pieces, discover important connections as they work out solutions, develop a deep understanding of concepts, and strengthen their critical thinking skills.

Math Lessons for a Living Education creates an exciting, enjoyable environment for your student to learn, grow, and develop math skills—and because your student is relating newfound knowledge to everyday life, they’ll retain it too!

They have levels 1-6, taking you all the way through the Elementary years and offering a very thorough elementary education.  If you are transferring from a different program, I strongly suggest taking the placement test offered from the MasterBooks website here.  A newer thing they are offering are PDF downloads of the books now.  That would make it very usable for multiple children in the same household.

If you would like to look at this product further, then head on over to MasterBooks website and check out the samples they have for each grade level.

We would love to hear from you.  Let us encourage one another as we all walk together!
