CBD decribes America the Beautiful in a nutshell,
“The next best thing to a yearlong cross-country trip (or a great take-along companion)! In this history and geography curriculum, 150 faith-affirming lessons take your middle-schoolers from the year 1000 to the present, emphasizing America’s leaders, landmarks, achievements, and God-given resources—from geysers to grizzly bears! Includes two softcover student textbooks, book of primary resources, timeline book, maps, and answer key.”

From the Notgrass history website:

“America the Beautiful by Charlene Notgrass is a one-year American history, geography, and literature course designed for students in grades 5-8. It combines the flexibility and richness of a unit study with the simplicity of a textbook-based approach to history. Daily lessons guide your child chronologically through American history, highlighting key events, people, and places. ” (link at end of post)
The America the Beautiful Curriculum Package contains these six books:

  •     America the Beautiful Part 1
  •     America the Beautiful Part 2
  •     We the People
  •     Maps of America the Beautiful
  •     Timeline of America the Beautiful
  •     America the Beautiful Answer Key

If you just want to use America the Beautiful with one child, you will need one Curriculum Package. You might want to consider purchasing either the Student Workbook or Lesson Review  additionally and either the Literature Package or individual literature titles. I always check to see what literature books I already have before ordering any literature packages. Many families just borrow the literature books from the library, as much as possible. We don’t have to own every book that goes along with a curriculum.

Now if you are planning to  use America the Beautiful with more than one child, you will, of course, need at least one copy of the America the Beautiful Curriculum Package. If you read the lessons aloud, or if your children take turns reading the lessons during the day, you will only need one. But, if your children will  be working  independently , then you will probably need more than one Curriculum Package. Also, each child will need a pack of consumables.

For each child, choose a combination of these options:

  1. Maps of America the Beautiful,
  2. Timeline of America the Beautiful, Student Workbook
  3. Lesson Review.

You may also wish to purchase the Literature Package or individual literature titles.

The Notgrass history website posted this message about this popular curriculum:

The current printing of America the Beautiful is nearly sold out, and we are having Part 1 and Part 2 reprinted in hardcover with additional color illustrations. The new edition should be available around the beginning of June. The price will remain the same ($99.95 for the Curriculum Package)
