Our family has read many of the Genevieve Foster books. We especially liked The World of Augustus Caesar . Foster has a unique pattern for these books. They are written in a chronological format over the course of a famous person's life such as Christopher Columbus, John Smith, or George Washington. But unlike other books, Foster covers the highlights of world history by telling in story format what else is happening in the world during the lifetime of the book's namesake. Like no other books, these give us a sense of what happens chronologically in history, weaving the facts of famous people and nations into a beautiful tapestry story. These books are used by the Beautiful Feet Homeschool Curriculum and others. I highly recommend these books. JULIE

Abraham Lincoln's World By Genevieve Foster / Beautiful Feet Books In the years which saw the birth and babyhood of Abraham Lincoln, dramatic events were unfolding across the globe. Thomas Jefferson was completing his eighth year as president, George III was still reigning over England and Napoleon would shortly be defeated at Waterloo. Grant was born, Harriet Beecher was reading anything she could get her hands on, Darwin was collection toads, crabs and sells and the boy Dickens was working in a London shoe blacking factory. When Lincoln became a shopkeeper, England defeated China and took over Hong Kong, Texas won it's independence and gold was discovered in California! The Oregon Trial would open, while David Livingstone would open the way to deepest Africa. This period would see the end of monarchies, serfdom and slavery, the dawn of the railroad, the telegraph and the steamboat.
